Interstitial ad
We have a client who will be running an interstitial ad and they asked some questions that I do not know the answers to. I will attach the ad that they sent along with their questions. I would appreciate any help/information you can give us on this. Thank you.
Attached is the ad, links to https://webstermoments.com/story/9/kite-architects
This is their question:
Still looking for some clarification on why we can’t send you a UTM code? It’s just like sending a regular URL, but it helps us to track on our end. Can we at least send you a bitly?

Hi Anne,
It's fine for your client to send you a link with UTM codes in it.
They would just add some tracking parameters to the link that their Google Analytics would pick up on, which essentially would make the link look like this:
https://webstermoments.com/story/9/kite-architects?utm_source=pbn&utm_medium=banner
For your part nothing changes. It's just a slightly longer link, but you input it into the ad server the same way.

Mike, thanks for this. And forgive my ignorance but I cannot use that code you sent me, they would have to send me their own code, correct? I guess I am confused because what you sent me links correctly.

Anne,
Yes, the link I sent was just an example. The advertiser will likely want to use different identifying codes in the link. You should ask them to send you link with the UTM codes they want to use.

So the client had another question:
Thank you for getting back to me Anne! We prefer sending all assets through Sizmek our 3rd party Ad Server, which we had done in the past unitl we were told we couldn’t. Any way to resume sending ads through our server? If not, I will send the UTM for the Interstitial.
It seems like this should work for any ad, right? Not sure why they were told they couldn’t.

Hi Anne,
For ad placements on your web site, yes, it's fine for them to give you Sizmek tags. Maybe they were told that for e-mail newsletters placements. With e-mail it isn't technically possible to use third-party tags and those are limited to just an image and link.
